Taken from an article by The Voice of Flores, with permission. We take our research very seriously at The Voice of Flores, and pride ourselves on the hours we have spent eating and drinking to bring you this article – a foodie map to Labuan Bajo. However, with Flores growing daily, the list will never be complete so please let us know about any new spots or old faves that we simply must go check out, all in the name of research of course!
Delicious food without rules, and a whole lotta fun! The menu here is playful, bringing ideas and recipes together to create inventive and more importantly, truly tasty food. They serve Japanese, fusion, and rustic organic food from 7am to 11pm, with a menu that has something for everyone, including our vegan and vegetarian friends. Plus, Happy Banana has an extensive wine list, mind-blowing cocktails and power packed juices for those looking for a healthy option.

Labuan Bajo is famous for its fish markets, stocked daily by the local fishermen with their freshly caught fish and seafood pulled straight from the clean waters of Flores. It’s hard to choose a favourite stall, so you really need to try them all. Unless you are a chilli and sambal seasoned expert, take it easy – the tiny chillies pack a punch but add a fabulous flavour to any seafood you choose.
Just head down to the port in Labuan Bajo, you can’t miss the bustling fish markets.
Say it as one word and you’ll work out exactly what they specialise in, caffeine! Good strong coffee with talented baristas bringing you a great coffee every time. Plus, they sell their expertly roasted coffee beans in bags to take home, so for those times when the shop isn’t open, you always have a cup of coffee in hand.
Open from 6am to 10pm and on FB and IG @cafe.in.hit
Famous for its spectacular sunset bar, La Cecile is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has several different areas for dining. We recommend getting there a little earlier than sunset, because the best spots at the ledge bar overlooking the bay and view to the islands tend to go quickly. A favourite for us is the club sandwich, and one of our writers swears by the bubur ayam for breakfast.

Looking for a bar with banging music that stays open late? Paradise Bar is the answer for all you night owls who love to shake a tail feather. Perched overlooking the port, the sublime sunset views of the islands give way to live music, dancing and seriously good Long Island iced teas. But don’t take our word for it, check it out the next time you are in Labuan Bajo.
One word, book. It’s a small and beautifully decorated Italian restaurant that has people lining up at the door to get a table. So get in early and avoid disappointment. From experience, you can’t go wrong with any of the pizzas, and the pasta will put you into a delicious food coma with home-style cooking using the freshest of ingredients.

I ‘discovered’ this gem by mistake when I got caught up in the ocean views and forgot to take my turn off on the road. But what a fabulous mistake to make. The beach club is gorgeous with an old boat dining and bar area, as well as several other dining areas along the expansive beach property. In keeping with the beachside location, there is a fun nautical theme, and a sparkling pool and bar flowing out over the ocean. I started with a fresh juice but was easily convinced to swap to an icy cold beer, followed by a luscious lunch.
